The Shows

Doug and Pat are back for two final shows as they head off into the sunset. Doug will be traveling even more until he perishes somewhere exotic, and Pat will continue to procure valuable vintage instruments from unsuspecting widows before he sells them to Bonamassa. Part one returns us to PAF clone pickups, part two will be about some incredible vintage English amplifiers. Billy...if you're out there, time is running out to do the right thing.

We know you didn't believe us when we said we would be back with another Market Place so soon. But we are...so there, non believers. We will be continuing to talk about gear, buying and selling it, and maybe helping some of you too. Number two in the series. And then we'll do it again, just you wait and see.

We get a bit of email from people shopping for particular guitars, amps, pickups, stuff like that which we know a bit about. We decided to go official on inviting everyone to check with us, and especially Pat because he's out in the market buying and selling all the time, and see what we might have for sale, what items Pat has come across that are for sale, as well as what you're looking for or what you might want to sell. No demos, just an invite to conversations for serious guitar players looking for gear or selling gear. We'll have items we're selling on every episode with demos available from us. It's kind of what Pat does all the time and Doug just hears about it. Sound like fun? Let's go.

We're taking a look at early patent number Gibson pickups, the ones with the patent number sticker, short magnet, enamel coated purple wire, to late 1950's PAF humbuckers (long magnet, PAF sticker on the bottom). They look about the same, but how do they compare ? There will be the usual amount of Wise Old Guys (us) discussing for a while, and then the demos. To make things easier for the impatient, see the menu below. No overdrive or distortion pedals used, just an EarthQuaker Devices Dispatch Master delay pedal for ambience. The amps used are a 1965 Vox AC10SRT and a newer Marshall JTM Studio. More details in the video.

Doug and Pat are back, telling the tale of what happened to them for so long. But meanwhile, Pat has done some sleuthing as to the strange behavior of "BFG". It's shocking friends, so hold on to your proverbial hats, and be prepared to watch your back.

Doug and Pat take a look at another fine creation from JP Henry, builder of the SRT+ amplifier we love so much. This time he's going after two vintage Marshall versions- the Plexi and the JCM800, in the same amp and with some great modern features, mods and a quality build. Doug and Pat don't do metal very well, but dang, we had to crank this bad boy and take it for a spin. So give it a listen my friends, and even though Doug can't play "Enter Sandman" to save his life, he does take a shot at two hand tapping in here somewhere. It's time for the "Pasadena Rose!"

Here is the second installment of the Doug and Pat Nashville Road trip we took in September of 2023. This time we go to three of the most iconic music stores in Nashville, hang out with some cool folks and check out some very cool guitars. There might even be a special guest in this episode somewhere. Lastly, we end our trip by visiting Vinni and his wife Nancy of V Picks at their mini farm in Nashville, and get the up close into all of the vast pick options he makes, how he makes them and where the ideas come from. Nashville is a great music town with great food and great people, you should visit it sometime. D&P

Doug and Pat had the pleasure of meeting up with Nashville session player extraordinaire and YouTube sensation Tom Bukovac on our recent trip to Nashville, Tennessee. After a fine southern breakfast, we all went to Tom's house to talk music, play guitars and get insights into the life of a busy studio session player at the top of his game in Music City. A good time ensued.
